Painting the French Riviera

A visit to the Royal Academy, London to see how the Côte d'Azur dazzled modern art's great innovators.

To Monet, it was like "swimming in blue air." To Braque, a "joyful revelation." Derain compared its cerulean hues to "sticks of dynamite….primed to discharge light."

L. S. Lowry

This visit to The Milton Keynes Gallery will be for this significant solo exhibition of the work of Laurence Stephen Lowry (1887 – 1976).  It marks the 50th anniversary of the painter’s death, and 13 years since his last significant institutional temporary exhibition Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life at Tate Britain. Lowry was a British painter, best known for his industrial landscapes of northwest England.

Monet Exhibition

Monet: Painting Time will be Tate Modern’s first exhibition devoted to Claude Monet, bringing together many breath-taking paintings and rarely seen works. Drawing on new research, the show will centre on the artist’s relationship with time at the dawn of the industrial age. Visitors will see how Monet captured fleeting, instantaneous moments and the passing of years and seasons, as epitomised by his iconic Water Lillies cycle.

The date of this visit has not yet been finalised.  It will take place in April 2027.
